Babysitting
Over the years I have babysat numerous kids varying in ages from three to eight. One particular babysitting job I had included being responsible for two little girls. At the time I acquired this position the girls were ages three and five. This was a longstanding position lasting approximately seven years.
The activities I perform as a caregiver include but is not limited to
-
Supervision
-
Cooking
-
Constructive play: Arts and crafts, board games, card games, imaginary play etc.
-
Bedtime routines
-
Outings to parks, beaches, community events, restaurants, etc.
-
Extended care, lasting more than a day and overnight

These are the two girls I babysat most often Hannah on the left and Norah to her right. It has been such a pleasure caring for these wonderful girls. They have brought so much happiness into my life and taught me so much. Truly a great experience, teaching me what it means to care for another human being or two.

Something I would do with the children I babysat was taking them to special community events such as Canada Day at little lake park. This was an additional responsibility I took upon myself. I supervised the children with an especially close eye at such events with hundreds of people and additional dangers.
I would often take the children to Little Lake Park in my community. This would allow some time for exercise and fun. I learned the importance of having a variety of events planned out throughout the day while caring for children.

Relay For Life

“The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is more than a fundraiser — it’s a chance for you to send a powerful message of solidarity to your community” (Canadian Cancer Society, 2020).
I was a group leader in 2017 for the Relay For Life event held by St. Theresa's Catholic High School. At this event, we celebrated cancer survivors, remembered those we've lost, and made a difference with the funds we raised. This event has had a huge impact on me. I learned a lot about teamwork, patience, endurance, and supporting others. I believe since partaking in this event I am a more compassionate and empathetic person because of my gained awareness of how many people are impacted by such serious life-altering situations. This personal growth and awareness will help me in pursuing a career in the social service field.

Additional Volunteer Experiences
Highschool Activities
I have volunteered at numerous high school activities over the years. Such activities include Grade 8 parent night, grade 8 orientation, and grade 9 day. My performance at these events shows my timeliness because I was always on time and I was able to follow the event schedules with punctuality. Upon the start-up of grade ten, I was a peer mentor for the new students entering grade 9.

When I volunteered at Lions Club Community Reach Food Bank, I was able to work with the experienced leaders and other volunteers. When doing so I was keen to communicate with them to ensure I was providing effective services. At this time I organized non-perishable food items for quality control to provide safe food for people in need.

Over the course of a summer, I volunteered at The Martyrs Shrine to initiate people visiting the shrine to complete a survey about their experience and satisfaction with the services offered. I contributed to the quality control of The Martyrs Shrine to be able to provide the most appropriate services according to the people using the services.

When I volunteered at the butter tart festival in my town, I used my communication and people skills when interacting with others to provide directions and details of the events taking place. I was positioned at one of the roadblocks to guarantee no vehicles would enter the prohibited area. Likewise, I was responsible for moving the barriers if an emergency vehicle shall need entry. In addition, at the end of the event, I was available to guide traffic through exits, as booths packed up for the day and headed home.
